The Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Management and Public Administration (IMPA) was established in 1982 as an Apex Institute to
impart training to a cross-section of government officials. In 1986, the State Institute of Rural Development was merged with
IMPA and thus the J&K Institute of Management, Public Administration and Rural Development was registered as an autonomous
body on September 4, 1986.
